Due to restrictions on large gatherings at the time, the annual HP Retail Roadshow was not able to go ahead as a live in-person event. As an alternative, we came up with a creative way to make the roadshows come to life as a virtual event.
Our vision was to create a ‘one night only’ broadcast event, filmed live from a custom built studio space – think Top Gear meets What Now meets The Late Show. We created six different segments for the show, each with their own custom-built on-screen zone. We even had live music during the show, with a DJ set from Che Fu.
The live 90 minute event was broadcast over an evening to over 500 retail staff around New Zealand, and was fully interactive with spot prizes, quizzes and even dinner delivery to the door of every virtual attendee. Feedback from attendees was through the roof, with many commenting that they’d never seen anything of that level ever.
This production showed how virtual events don’t need to be stuck in a Zoom frame, and can be informative, visually entertaining, and a whole lot of fun to be a part of.
